Sprucewold Column: Opening party July 1 and more
The seasonal water was turned on over a month ago and cabins are showing signs of life. The weather hasn't been very summery but the rain and fog are good for the plants and fire suppression. We have been cozy and warm in front of the fireplace and have had lots of get-togethers with family and friends despite the lack of good weather. And as of this week the boat is in!
Sprucewold Association President Susan Goodell has announced the date of the opening party: Saturday, July 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Linekin Green picnic pavilion. Please bring a sweet or savory dish to share and if you can bring your own plates and utensils it will cut down on waste, beverages will be provided. Susan also adds that if you have guests around for the holiday please bring them, the more the merrier!
Sprucewold residents Margit Ahlin and Al D’Andrea, principals of the Snowlion Repertory Company, extend an invitation to the Sprucewold community to their Christmas in July celebration at the Boothbay Opera House on Tuesday, July 11. It will feature one of their most popular musicals, The Christmas Bride. All seats are $20.
Linekin Heights President Wally Moulaison reports that our caretaker, Joel Peaslee, removed 14 loads of dead trees and brush from Linekin Green which is in line with our community fire prevention initiative in Sprucewold. Please contact Wally or me if you are a Sprucewold resident and would like to use the Green this season for a friend and family event; we have shuffleboard, bocce, croquet, ping pong, horseshoes, and playing fields. Linekin Green is a wonderful asset for our Sprucewold community.
News from Sprucewold Beach Club President Elisa Goldsmith is that Jacob Moulaison will return as our beach attendant. He will maintain the waterfront and greet beach members and their guests, one difference this year is that he will work five days per week, rather than six, and at least one of those days will be on the weekend. Our own Ernie Labelle will open the beach at the beginning of the season, thank you Ernie! Welcome packets to new SBC members were sent out in the spring. Please introduce yourselves and make our new members welcome.
Please remember to sign in with your beach tag number when you arrive at the beach; use your beach tag and ask your renters or houseguests to do the same. Jacob has come to know many of our members, he cannot determine if a certain cottage includes membership by address or by cottage name. If you have lost your cabin’s tag, please contact our president directly for a replacement. The beach will open to members on July 1. And don’t forget to vote for the by-law changes by email or mail by June 30.
Friday, July 21 is the Boothbay Region Garden Club annual Home and Garden Tour “The Sea Around Us” will feature one of our own charming cabins. Tickets are $35 and are available at the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce.
If you are interested in writing a column this summer just let me know what week is best for you. See you at the Opening Party on July 1.
