Lucky Edgecombers
These Edgecombers got lucky in the moose lottery: John Blake, David Clifford, Ricky Heaberlin, Michael Ripley and George Sharrard.
Barbara Belknap will be in the cast of the Lincoln County Community Theater's "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown." Performances will be on in August, but reserve now.
The Edgecomb Eddy School's Civil Rights Team was among those honored at a Portland Sea Dogs game in May. Adviser Madeline Olney and students Natalie Potter, Madeleine Archer, Bella Fabiano and Juliette Lapoint were at Hadlock Field for that event. Well done.
Well done also to Emily Harris, who, on graduating from Edgecomb Eddy's Sixth Grade, was awarded the Sara Leone Outstanding Citizenship Award. Elsewhere in educational Edgecomb, the Deck House School is embarking on an ambitious fund-raising Campaign for a Secure Future, for several on-campus projects, and also a scholarship honoring the school's founder Edward Tuck Hall.
The Deck House, atop a steep hill off the Cross Point Road, offers a one-on-one, more personally tailored education for boys who find traditional classroom learning a major barrier. For more details, get in touch with Tom Blackford, a former headmaster, now director of development, at 207-882-6553.
The Edgecomb sewer plunges back into our attention, questions of pumping stations, capacities, overboard discharges, all take me back to my old selectman days.
We are asked to advise developer Tony Casella on what we want him to build on Davis Island. Keep alert to a possible joint meeting of selectmen, planning board and ordinance review committee with Mr. Casella to discuss this in depth, and remember, all these meetings are open to the public.
However, if you have opinions to offer, you are advised to let the selectmen know in advance so they can plan the agenda accordingly. Go to www.edgecomb.org to contact them all.
Whatever kind of development occurs will depend on the current status of water and sewer facilities on Davis Island. There will be a public hearing on Monday, July 1, at 7 p.m., in the Town Hall, following the selectmen's meeting, to see if a special town meeting should be called, to approve a projected $25,000 study of Davis Island infrastructure.
