I love a mystery!
Mon, 06/20/2022 - 2:00pm

When I hear the expression “Let's go to the movies,” I think of playwrights, screen writers and film makers. However more often than not an author's book or series is picked up for movies or television. I couldn't begin to list them all. Being an avid fan of mystery writers I have picked out some of my favorites along with the “I love a mystery book club's” suggestions.

Starting with British author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, his most notable “ Sherlock Holmes” was made into a variety of movies and television.

English writer Dame Agatha Christie's “Murder on the Orient Express” was made into a movie and is still popular today. Her “Poirot” was made into film and TV. “ Miss Marple” was popular on MasterPiece Theater TV. “Death Comes to Pemberley” by P.D.James has been another Masterpiece favorite and her “Inspector Dalgliesh” was made into a TV series.

Elizabeth George's “Detective Inspector Thomas Lynley” was adapted for BBC TV.

Louise Penny's “Still Life” (a Three Pine Series) can be seen on Netflix and Sundance. Her “Chief Insp. Armand Gamacite” was picked up for Amazon Prime Video.

Stephen King's popular novels made into movies are “Carrie, Misery, The Shining” and many more.

Patricia Cornwell has several of her books on film. “Hornet's Nest” and “Kay Scarpetta” are both now TV series.

Tess Gerritsen's “The Surgeon” introduced “Homicide Detective Jane Rizzoli.” Her character later became known as “Rizzoli and Isles” a popular TV series.

ABC'S Big Sky is based on C.J. Box’s “Cassie Dewitt” novels. His “ Joe Pickett” TV series was dropped but may be renewed.

Karin Slaughter's “Pieces of Her” was picked up by Netflix. Laura Dave's “TheLast Thing He Told Me” was picked up as a mini series on Apple TV.

Check our catalog for a listing of these movies and TV series.

    Happy reading mystery lovers!
