A discussion of Southport's book of 'Island Tales'
Ron Orchard and Donald Duncan, trustees of the Southport Historical Society, are speaking at the Boothbay Region Historical Society, on Friday, May 17, from noon to 1 p.m. Their topic is “Presenting Local History Through People's Remembered Stories.” The presentation is free and open to the public, and will take place at the BRHS Museum at 72 Oak St. in Boothbay Harbor.
Orchard and Duncan recently edited and managed, on behalf of the Southport Historical Society, the publication of a widely popular book entitled "Island Tales." It is a book that inevitably blends both history and hearsay from the stories and memory of many Southport Islanders. Orchard and Duncan will tell us about the process of acquiring the stories, putting the book together, and about aspects of Southport's history that otherwise might have been lost to passing time.
Orchard and Duncan will be the guests of the BRHS Brown Bag lunch forum, an informal and always lively gathering. Bring a sandwich and join us for an interesting discussion. Call Betsy Spekke, Museum Director, at 207-633-0820, for further information. Please park in the street and not in the First Bank's parking lot.
