Elaine Jones, Department of Marine Resources education director, has announced that the Maine State Aquarium in West Boothbay Harbor is temporarily closed as a precautionary effort to protect the public and limit the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

We understand the disappointment this brings, but we are adhering to recommendations that ensure the safety and well-being of our guests, employees and volunteers, said Jones via email.

“Our organization will still be a resource to you even while buildings are closed. We have online materials and may offer field oriented activities as the season progresses,” said Jones
