After some retirements and resignations in Boothbay-Boothbay Harbor Community School District and Alternative Organizational Structure (AOS) 98 system, Superintendent Keith Laser has already honed in on two replacements from inside the systems.

AOS 98 Director of Special Services Lisa Smith accepted a job as director of special services for Regional School Unit 26 in Orono. Three weeks after AOS 98 schools each accepted her resignation, Laser sent an email to the AOS 98 board notifying it he would be recommending Georgetown Central School Principal Chris Baribeau for the job.

“Fortunately, we have a superb educator already employed in the AOS, ready to assume the job,” Laser said. “...-We have been very fortunate to have had Lisa at the helm of our program for the past few years. It will take some time for Chris to learn the details of this demanding position; nonetheless, I am confident he will do an excellent job.”

Formerly a special education teacher at Boothbay Region High School, Baribeau accepted his job at GCS two years ago. He will start July 1 when Smith will be starting at RSU 26, said Laser, but not before the AOS 98 board appoints him officially.

Said Smith in her response, “Yeah, Chris! He is a natural and I will be very happy to help him with the transition. Congratulations.”

Announcements

According to the CSD School Committee’s April 30 agenda, Laser will recommend the board have BRHS Interim Principal Tricia Campbell replace BRHS Principal Dan Welch, who announced his resignation weeks ago. Laser also said he will be making recommendations for replacing longtime special education teacher Toby LeConte.

Said Laser, “Lisa (Smith) has folks lined up to take over from Toby.”

Plans have not been announced yet to replace other retiring staff: Fourth grade teacher Kathy Hartley, fifth and sixth grade teacher Hildy Johnson, varsity basketball coach I.J. Pinkham, BRHS secretaries Debbie Greenleaf and Diana Holmes, and CSD Food Service Director Darlene French.
