Safe return from Mexico

Mon, 03/23/2020 - 2:45pm

    Dear Editor:

The past few days have been worrisome for my family because of the Covid-19 pandemic. My granddaughter, Nicole, and husband have been teaching and living in Mexico. They had made reservations to fly back on Sunday and she called her Mom on Wednesday and told her. When Lora called me I said I think they are closing the borders soon if they haven’t already.

I called Senator Susan Collins’ office to find out. They told me to have her call the embassy there and find out. They did not help at all!

Nicole went ahead and made reservations for the next day, Thursday. Lucky her because that was the day President Trump announced the closing of the borders that midnight. They made it back to the USA in time! They are in quarantine now in Boothbay Harbor.

A big thank you to Tom and Patti Minerich for giving them a place to stay. They even supplied them with groceries enough for two weeks. A big thank you, too, to Senator Collins’ office for their help (especially to Chuck). Thank you to our wonderful our community for help as always. God Bless you and stay safe.

    Dawn Gilbert
