BRHS boys basketball awards night held

The Boothbay Region High School boys basketball postseason awards night was held Wednesday, March 4 in the BRHS cafeteria. Players, parents, grandparents and others enjoyed the donated food prior to the presentation of awards.
Junior varsity coach Dan Hallinan talked about his team’s successful 14-3 season and thanked parents, varsity coach I.J. Pinkham, scorekeeper Kevin Ames and others before handing out certificates to his players. Team members included Ashton McLellan, Tyler Barter, Matt Sullivan, Lucas Hardwick, Gryffin Kristan, Grant Swope, Adam Hobson, Andrew Meader, Ryan Amaral, Dylan Plummer, Moses Allen, Connor Wenners, Sam Page, Nase Lawless, Kayden Ames, Jordan Carrier and Zach Rollins.
Pinkham, who is retiring after 50 years of coaching high school basketball (46 at BRHS) and amassing 659 victories, recapped his team’s successful 15-5 season. The Seahawks defeated Mt. Abram in the quarterfinal round of the Class C South tournament and lost to Waynflete in the semifinals. Pinkham pointed out that this year’s tournament was the 27th straight appearance for the BRHS Seahawks. He also thanked several people who assisted with the team’s success this season before introducing his players and handing out awards.
Senior Hunter Crocker, who finished his career with 949 points, was presented with the most valuable player award. Senior Nicholas Morley was given the coach’s award and junior Ben Pearce received the most improved award.
“It’s been fun,” said Pinkham to end the awards ceremony.
It was announced at the previous night’s Mountain Valley Conference all-star game that the MVC will now call its annual Coach of the Year award the “I.J. Pinkham Boys Coach of the Year Award.”
