DEYC day-tripper held Aug. 31

A few years ago, Pete Yesmentes, long time DEYC member and mariner extraordinaire (with small boat member-owners in mind) organized monthly lunch excursions to increase the number of occasions for DEYC members to share time on the water. These occasions have proved to be very popular.

A rare coincidence occurred this on Saturday, Aug. 31. Both the BHYC and the DEYC planned a raft-up in Hodgdon Cove off Townsend Gut in Boothbay Harbor. Neither club was aware of the other’s scheduled noon lunch raft-up. As it turns out, the BHYC plans an annual event on this date while DEYC posts a schedule a year in advance of Day-Tripper events for the last Saturday in June, July and August. Through friendly communication both clubs were able to gather as planned.

On this fantastic August day, blessed with glorious weather, 15 DEYC boats gathered in several rafts for the final DEYC “Day-Tripper” event of the Year. Participants enjoyed camaraderie, plans for the fall and beyond, and munchies and beverages to suit all palates.

Respite, a 42-foot Grand Banks, captained by Terry and Lauren Stockwell, held the mooring for one raft. Others in the raft included Eleanor Yes, a 32-foot Lobster Yacht owned by Pete and Eleanor Yesmentes, Freedom, a 36-foot Heritage East Sundeck piloted by P/C Steve and Debbie Arkley, Groovy, a 21-foot Grady White captained by Pete and Carolyn Beers, and Sabrina, an 18-foot Hereshoff Pilot, with Skipper Mac and Barbara Gray.

The second raft included V/C Ron and Lorrie Richardson aboard their 35-foot Beneteau sail Wildflower, Pursuit, a 23-foot Center Console crewed by owners Rick and Mary Pollak, Schatz I with P/C Captain Winn and Inge Russell and their daughter Heidi aboard, Moor Mularky, a 22’ Century Cuddy Cabin, captained by Dana and Jane Mulholland and Quaghog, an 18-foot Pointer skippered by John and Sharon Ryan.

Salty Paws, a 37-foot Lord Nelson Victory Tug captained by R/C Jeanne Koenig and Robert Ewing, and Oceana, a 38-foot Egg Harbor piloted by P/C Sandy and Karen Young, partnered on a mooring while Troy and Sandy Hersom, aboard their 36-foot Formula Band Aids anchored nearby. Robert Ewing dinghied Jeanne Koenig through and around the boats passing greetings and taking pictures.

Po Boy, a 36-foot trawler captained by P/C George and Theresa Hamilton and Sea Smoke, piloted by Chet and Carol Claridge cruised by for a hello!

The final scheduled DEYC event of the summer is the Haul Out Party to be held at Blake’s Boat Yard on Saturday, Sept. 14.
