Monmouth Academy Mustangs gallop by Seahawks 11-1

The Boothbay Region High School Seahawks, 2-11, began the winddown of their 2019 season facing the Monmouth Academy Mustangs, 10-3, on Friday, May 24.

The Mustangs came out swinging, scoring three runs in the first inning, and went on to win, 11-1.

The Seahawks staged a comeback in the bottom of the inning. Leading off, Hunter Crocker bunted and took second on an overthrow of first base. He came home on a ground ball by Will LaBrecque.

The Seahawks’ offense then stalled under the strong pitching of Mustang senior Trevor Flanagan, 5-0, who racked up nine strikeouts in four innings. Tom MacDonald finished out the five-inning game for the Mustangs.

Hunter Crocker struck out four and gave way to Matt Sullivan with two outs in the fourth inning.

The Seahawks had a chance of staving off the mercy rule in the bottom of the fifth inning with the Mustangs leading 11-1. Matt Sullivan singled. Hunter Crocker was hit by a pitch. The runners attempted a double steal with two outs. Unfortunately, Jamie LaBrecque struck out to end the game.

The Seahawks will end their season at home on Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Wiscasset Middle High School.
