Full house
Last Thursday's Rotary meeting found a full house on a fine summer evening.
Immediately following Henry Wyatt's invocation, which stressed the Four Way Test, we were treated to a performance of "Sail Away" by the group Music Doing
Good, who will perform at the Opera House and the Chocolate Church in Bath. Their goal is to do charitable work much like Rotary, only their fund raising is through their music.
Dinner, served by Brian McGrath and Ann and Seth Hedgcock, followed an introduction of several visitors and guests, including Jones Bryant from Clemson, S.C., several Rotarians including Past President Juliana L'Heureux and her husband from the Brunswick Noon club and members of the Portland club, including Tom
Jones who is selling his photos of Windjammer Days and the recent District Changeover Lobster Bake at the Spruce Point Inn (before it rained) to support Polio Plus.
The 50/50, run by Annette Stormont, was first won by Robin Reed and the second half by some guy writing furiously.
Cy Seifert, Sargent at Arms, fined several people for various offenses. Never one to miss a trick, he spotted Bob Goodrich's badge on the table in front of Bob Jacobson, and nailed him accordingly. Bob has ordered a new pair of glasses.
A late program change featured a classification talk by our own Rick Elder. Rick is originally from South Paris. From that dubious beginning he went on to graduate from UMaine Orono. In 1989 he joined the Fleet Bank in Providence specializing in Retail Banking. He moved back to Maine in 1993 to take a position as Branch Manager at the Boothbay Harbor branch of the First National Bank in Damariscotta, a position he held for eight years. He is currently head of Retail Lending in Damariscotta. Rick lives in Edgecomb and is married with two daughters who are in the Y-Arts; and his interests include hiking and working out at the Y.
1993 was also the year he joined the Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club. He was secretary in Bob Pike's year, and has been on the Board of Directors several times, as well as serving the community on the boards of the YMCA, St. Andrews, and the town of Edgecomb, among others. One thing he failed to mention is that he was one of the first organizers of the Lions-Rotary Golf Tournament, back in the days before we merged it with the Lions. He performed this task with distinction for several years.
President Jim Botti rang the bell at 7:55 p.m. and told us to go home.
