Community Preservation in Maine Towns
Greg Paxton, executive director of Maine Preservation, an organization whose mission is to provide sound stewardship of historical properties for community enhancement, will speak at the Boothbay Region Historical Society on Wednesday, July 25, at 4 p.m.
Paxton, a specialist in house and real estate preservation, will discuss the evolving historic preservation movement in Maine, as well as the importance of preserving the historic features of old houses and buildings and their role in community revitalization, value and beauty. The title of his talk is “Community Preservation in Maine Towns.”
Maine Preservation, Paxton’s nonprofit, is headquartered in Yarmouth and has field representatives around the state. It is committed to the promotion and protection of Maine’s historic places and properties.
To encourage this mission, Maine Preservation annually identifies a list of historic properties that are under threat and is also active in acquiring and reselling such properties and participating in their rehabilitation. Maine Preservation also honors community leadership in the field, hosts events, workshops and conferences, and is a public policy advocate and fundraiser on behalf of these activities.
This talk will take place at the Boothbay Region Historical Society’s museum at 72 Oak St., Boothbay Harbor. This program is free and open to the public. Seating is limited and seat reservations are encouraged. For more information or seat reservations, call 633-0820 or email brhs@gwi.net.
