Seahawks continue to breeze by school records, personal times

The Boothbay Region High School indoor track team continued its exciting season of excellent performances and broken records Jan. 25 as a foreshadowing of the quickly approaching spring outdoor track season.
“Wow, what a great night for BRHS track and field,” said Coach Nick Scott. “As the regular season draws to a close we are seeing some terrific performances come to fruition. It is awesome to see so many parents make the trek down to USM (University of Southern Maine). Thank you so much for all of the support.”
Seeded sixth in the one-mile run, Will Perkins won it in 4:44.82, besting his personal record by just over 13 seconds.
“Will continues to impress,” said Scott. “His time of 4:44.82 lowers his own school record and qualifies him automatically for states.”
Perkins also placed fourth in the 200-meter dash in 25.69 seconds. His finish time was off by 0.04 seconds from qualifying for state championships provisionally, but he did manage to set a new school record in the process, said Scott.
“Will now holds every school record – and almost qualified for states – from the 200 meter to the two-mile,” said Scott. “Talk about a range!”
Nathan Chatterton placed ninth in the same one-mile run, in 5:26.81. His time sets a new sophomore class record and ranks him number three on the top ten list.
The 800-meter dash was also an event to watch. Fox Elder placed fifth in 2:17.70, Graham Harris placed 12th in 2:25.13 and Ryan Russell placed 18th in 2:33.38. Elder set a new personal record with his run and all three athletes join the top ten list at second, fourth and eighth, respectively.
Kate Wickline placed sixth in the 800-meter run in 2:44.30. Wickline’s time earned her a provisional qualifying spot for states and lowers her own school record.
Mason Erhard placed 13th in the junior varsity 400-meter dash in 1:06.76 and 28th in the junior varsity 200-meter dash in 29.40 seconds. His finishing times in both events set a new personal record.
The 4 x 800 meter relay team – Fox Elder, Ryan Russell, Mason Erhard, Graham Harris – placed first in 9:56.76, beating Lisbon by six seconds and lowering the school record.
Zach Rollins placed sixth in junior varsity shotput with a 28’2” throw.
Seahawks indoor track will travel yet again to Gorham for its last regular season meet on Friday, Feb. 1.
