Seventh annual Home and Garden Tour

Mon, 08/06/2018 - 5:15pm

    Dear Editor:

Friends, community, visitors and Garden Club members, how fortunate we are to live here in the Boothbay area. Our Garden Club asks for help, and there you are, for the seventh year! Many, many thanks to our Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce, the Register, St. Andrews Village, AOS 98 (blessings to Dave Benner for his patience with us), the Harbor Theater and our committee chairs: Sue Hochstein, Jane Lunt, Carole Zalucky, Jim Singer, Alice Schambra and treasurer Sandy Abernathy, counting our $$$ along the way. You are all part of a special happening, keeping it special through your diligence, grace and stamina.

All of this great day could not have happened without the willingness of your neighbors, who have entrusted their homes and a business to us for the day. Please thank them when you see them, Pandy and Rick Dickenson, Lisa and John Dingle, Anne Gobes and Mike Ciccarelli, Jackie Elderkin, and Rhoda Weyr and Fred Kaplan. Your generosity was overwhelming!

We must thank our 100+ volunteers who gave up a good part of their day to help us in so many ways: baking cookies, hostessing, parking assistance, and making flower arrangements. We assume that you do this good deed because it’s fun, uses your tactical skills, and because our Tour funds many of our club’s goals, this one being scholarships.  Yes indeed, we give the YMCA $5,000 per year for summer camperships as well as $7,000 a year for several students pursuing advanced education in one of the earth sciences. We also have youth and elderly projects, public garden care, and informative programs open to the public throughout the year.

We would love to have you join us; you will have 122 new friends who love to garden, love this community, and work to keep it strong!
