Build it and they will come
We have so much going on, sometimes we can’t sleep! Our vision for affordable, accessible wellness services on the peninsula is beginning to become a reality. We had a vision of healthy, active folks of all ages enjoying life the way it should be — people taking charge of their own physical and spiritual well-being; helping others as they encounter bumps along the way. All of us can be working together to create and use the social and health services we need. And it is working — we have identified needs that must be met and we are doing it!
In January, we announced the Boothbay Region Health Center initiative. In May, we launched the Awesome Seniors People Helping People program. This September, we will open a new Senior Center at the Meadow Mall. Why not come and share our enthusiasm for these exciting programs? Help us bring community-designed and controlled, affordable, accessible health and wellness services to every person in our community.
A fundraiser
None of this comes without some cost so please join us at our first fundraiser. On Sunday, Aug. 9, we are sponsoring a rollicking night of music and fun at the Carousel Music Theater. Join us for an evening of song and dance by talented performers, with proceeds from each ticket going to support the Boothbay Region Health and Wellness Foundation and its many programs for year-round and seasonal residents of all ages, including our new Senior Center, our People Helping People program, and efforts to get the Boothbay Region Health Center up and running. The Cabaret program includes Broadway show tunes, followed by late '60s/early '70s favorites in a stage show called: "Where Have All the Hippies Gone?" A silent and live auction with valuable gift packages and local treasures will supplement the singing and dancing to support the foundation. Tickets are $45 per person, which covers soup, sandwich, coffee, dessert, tip, the Cabaret and the stage show and provides a contribution to the foundation. Call 207-633-5297 for reservations, and mention the foundation fundraiser. The event will take place on Sunday, August 9 at the Carousel Music Theater from 6:30-9 p.m. Welcome all hippies — young and old!
On Wednesday, Aug. 19, we will hold our annual Members’ Meeting. Plan to attend to learn about all of our current initiatives, renew your membership, and elect new board members. After the business meeting, there will be a potluck supper. Following supper, our featured speaker is Dr. Annika Hurwitt. Dr. Hurwitt will speak on "How to Attain Optimal Mental Wellbeing." Who doesn’t need to know more about gaining greater mental calm and presence, peace of mind, and contentment by aligning yourself with the way your mind actually works? We will hear from Annika’s 14-year old daughter about how she used these principles to conquer bullying. The Annual Meeting will be held at the Boothbay Fire House. Potluck dinner begins at 5:30 (Bring a dish to share, or enjoy our hospitality.) Annual Members’ Meeting begins at 6:15 p.m. and Annika’s talk begins at 7 p.m.
Your continued feedback is important to our efforts. We are pleased that so many members of the community have shared their concerns and ideas with us and we have been able to listen and respond with these initiatives. Keep the good ideas coming! The Boothbay Region Health and Wellness Foundation is here for the benefit of the people of the Boothbay peninsula.
