Man allegedly wielding knife arrested without incident
A man charged with threatening others with a knife on Pier One on July 5 was quickly subdued by Boothbay Harbor Police officers.
Boothbay Harbor Police Sergeant Pat Higgins and Reserve Officer Daniel Sceviour were on foot patrol near McSeagull’s Restaurant just after 1 a.m. when a woman reported a man with a knife threatening people in a nearby establishment. When police arrived at the scene, they say Terry Holmes, 53, of Boothbay, was threatening another man with a fixed blade knife.
Sgt. Higgins reported he came up to Holmes as he was raising the knife, grabbed his hand and took the knife. Police then handcuffed Holmes and removed him from the scene. Holmes was taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail and charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon.
Witnesses at the scene said Holmes was upset with another patron, but the reasons for his anger were not clear. Police said they suspect alcohol was a factor.
“Officers reacted immediately and were able to control the situation without injury to anyone. Situations like these can get of out of hand quickly. I was glad that no one, including the subject, was hurt,” Police Chief Bob Hasch said.
