Fish Pier piling bid near completion
The wooden pilings under Atlantic Edge Lobster on the Fish Pier are in dire need of replacement.
At the June 22 Boothbay Harbor Board of Selectmen meeting, four bids for the work were discussed. The job was conditionally awarded to Fuller Marine for its bid of $37,400.
Other bids included Rideout Marine at $25,500, TM Marine at $46,696.11, and Prock Marine at $120,000.
While Fuller Marine did not have the lowest bid, the bid from Rideout Marine was only to replace the pilings above the mud line, using a collar to secure the old pilings to the new section. Also, the bid from Fuller Marine had the earliest estimated completion time — Aug. 6.
Selectman Russ Hoffman moved to accept the bid from Fuller Marine, contingent on a phone call made by Town Manager Tom Woodin confirming that the bid was to replace the entirety of each piling, and not just part of each piling, as Rideout Marine had bid to do.
Vice Chairman Bill Hamblen seconded the motion, which was then unanimously approved.
The selectmen also unanimously approved using part of the undesignated fund for the 2015-2016 fiscal year to pay for the work.
