Mitman at Wilson Chapel June 28
The Rev. Cannon John L. C. Mitman will preach at Wilson Chapel at Ocean Point on June 28 at 9:30 a.m. All are welcome.
A native of Washington, D.C., Mitman graduated from Randolph-Macon College in Virginia in 1962 and from the Berkeley Divinity School at Yale in 1965. He has served as curate and associate rector at St. Thomas’ in Hanover, New Hampshire; Vicar Pro Tem at St. Michael and All Angels in Lancing, Sussex, England; chaplain precentor at The Cathedral of St. John in Hong Kong; director of interns and fellows at the William Jewett Tucker Foundation at Dartmouth College; Episcopal chaplain at Michigan State University; rector of St. Paul’s Parish, Des Moines, Iowa; rector of St. James’s Parish in West Hartford, Connecticut; and priest associate, Christ Church Cathedral and Grace Church, Hartford, Connecticut.
Beginning in 2001, Mitman served as executive director of the Society for the Increase of the Ministry, raising money for and administering scholarship monies for Episcopal seminarians across the United States. He retired in 2010. His publications include “Premarital Counseling: A Practical Manual for Clergy and Lay Counselors.”
He and his wife, Ruth, their children and grandchildren have been regular summer residents on Linekin Neck since 1985.
