Honors Essay
Hello, everyone! I would just like to say thank you to all the moms, dads, grandparents, friends and family that were able to attend today's ceremony. It really means a lot to us students to share this time with you. My name is Nicole LaBrecque and I am very proud to say that I am part of Boothbay Region High School's Class of 2015.
First off, we are all extremely fortunate to have grown up in this community. Not many people get to say that their graduating class only included 45 kids, and not many people are able to experience love in the way that our community gives. So on the behalf of all of us graduates, I want to say thank you to everyone in this room because you have made an impact in our lives, no matter how big or how small.
From Forrest Gump, we all learned that life is like a box of chocolates. Well, our class is like a box of chocolates. Forty-five, handcrafted, unique chocolates. Some are soft and sweet. Some are bitter, but we still love them just as much. And others are hard on the outside, but squishy on the inside. We are lucky because these 45 chocolates ended up in the same box and are sitting together on this stage.
When we were in eighth grade we were told, by every single adult we knew, that things will change in high school and that high school changes everyone. But, of course, nobody believed that.
Now, looking back, I definitely think everyone up here with me has changed in some way. And we have changed for the better. We all grew up, physically, intellectually and emotionally. When we entered these doors on our first day of freshman year, every staff member cringed. Apparently we had a reputation of being the worst class ever. So I guess it was fair that we got those awesome Macbook G4s, which are older than my brother, instead of brand new iPads. We also learned that we would all have perfectly sculpted legs from the excessive amount of stairs in this building.
As the next couple of years went on I think the staff here actually started liking our class. We matured. We exposed our true colors by showing the diversity our class has. We are not a class of lobstermen. We are not a class of brainiacs. And we are not a class of art students. We are our own class that has a special seat for everyone's personalities and traits. We, as a class, have bonded more this year and became closer than we have ever been in our past 12 years. Although this may be a bit of a cliche, we are a family. We put our classmates ahead of ourselves and accept everyone the way that they are.
I would just like to thank all of my classmates for being part of the best class in Boothbay Region High School history. There is no other box of chocolates that I would rather be a part of. Thank you.
