Oak Hill rallies to defeat Boothbay baseball
The Boothbay Region High School baseball team forged a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning May 18 versus Class B Oak Hill. But the Raiders rallied for three runs of their own in the inning’s bottom half. Boothbay Region had runners on in the second and third innings, but couldn’t push any more runs across the plate. Oak Hill scored twice in the third to take the lead on its way to a 10-4 victory in Mountain Valley Conference action.
After Noah Sherburne’s single, which scored two runs in the first, it seemed Seahawk hitters couldn’t produce any more timely hits.
“We just stopped hitting,” said Boothbay Region coach Chris Garneau. “That has been the battle all season.”
The Seahawks lost two more games this week to Class C Mountain Valley Conference foes. On May 15, Boothbay Region lost to No. 3 Monmouth Academy, 10-0, and on May 20, to No. 1 Dirigo of Dixfield, 24-0. Both games were played at Sherman Field.
The Seahawks’ three loses dropped their record to 0-11. Boothbay Region is in 17th place in the Western Maine Class C Heal Point standings.
Boothbay Region travels to Lisbon on Friday to play the second place team in Western Maine Class C. The Greyhounds are 9-2. On Tuesday, the Seahawks return home for a game against Wiscasset. The Wolverines (4-8) are in fourth place in the Western Maine Class D standings.
