Down East Yacht Club kicks of the summer with Commodores Luncheon
On Saturday, May 2, the Down East Yacht Club gathered at the Kennebec Tavern restaurant in Bath to celebrate the new Commodore Dave Quist.
A full house of 88 members were on board to enjoy a wonderful day of social talk and lunch. It was an occasion to catch up on what the winter had brought and what the summer hopes to bring.
The new rosters for 2015 were handed out and a schedule of events for the summer. The commodore reviewed the summer schedule of events and this years summer cruise in July. We all enjoyed a delicious lunch of summer salads, chowder and sandwiches. After lunch we had a guest speaker, Gordon Reed from Hamilton Yacht Charter, explain the ins and outs of boat charters in the BVIs.
DEYC is planning a charter cruise for 2016, to celebrate our 50th anniversary. Susan Bean, the historian committee chairman, is looking for any pictures and or stories that members may have to help with the anniversary.
She also needs helpers on her committee to make this a great year. As our anniversary of 50 years approaches, plans are already on way to make it the best year ever for the “Fun Club.”
Our wonderful administrative assistant, Jane Mulholland will be retiring after this summer. The DEYC is looking for someone to take her place, if you have any interest in the position please contact Jane at www.downeastyachtclub.com or admin@downeastyachtclub.com.
Let’s all hope for lots of boating “fun in the sun” for 2015.
