Community enjoys ice cream social and book fair at BRES

Students, parents and teachers joined together at Boothbay Region Elementary School on Tuesday, May 5 for the Scholastic Book Fair and Ice Cream Social.
Most families checked out the book fair first, which included popular titles from LEGO and Disney, historical fiction, picture books, and bestsellers such as “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.” There was even a sale table with books at reduced prices, such “The Great Greene Heist” by Varian Johnson for only $2.50.
“We don't buy books the rest of the year,” mother Amy Redfern said. “We save our money for the fair.”
After picking out books and checking out, families headed upstairs to the BRES gym and enjoyed vanilla ice cream, with or without chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Most families chose to eat outside as it was a beautiful day, and most students ate their food quickly so they could go play with their friends on the playground.
All funds raised at the scholastic book fair go to help the school.
