Harmon, Lewis seek reelection to board of selectmen
None of Boothbay’s municipal elections will be contested this year. All five contests will have only one candidate on this May’s ballot. The five candidates are all incumbents, as they were the only ones who took out and returned nomination papers. The deadline closed at 5 p.m. on March 20.
Those seeking reelection are Steven Lewis and Dale Harmon, selectmen; Kenneth Marston, Boothbay Region Water District; John Bertolet, Boothbay-Boothbay Harbor Community School District School Committee; and Kim Pinkham, Cemetery District. All positions are for three-year terms.
The only elected office without a candidate is for community school district trustee. Incumbent Chris Buchanan decided against seeking another term. Town Clerk Bonnie Lewis said any write-in candidates for the vacant office should contact her before election day.
Lewis and Harmon have served three full terms. They are seeking another term to complete the board’s work on economic development and cementing a closer relationship with Boothbay Harbor.
“It’s an exciting time in some respects,” Lewis said. “There is a lot going on in terms of economic development. And I can’t remember any time in my life where the town has worked as closely with Boothbay Harbor.”
Harmon agreed municipal leadership needs to follow through on several long term economic development projects.
“(There are) a lot of irons in the fire,” Harmon said. “There are several projects close to completion and I’d like to see them through.”
The election will take place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, May 4 in the municipal building.
