Inspectors find no deficiencies at Gregory Wing during yearly inspection
When state inspectors surveyed the Gregory Wing this fall they found no significant problems to correct.
According to the most recent data available from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, roughly 90 percent of all nursing homes nationwide have at least one deficiency to correct following yearly surveys. Having none speaks to a team effort by the entire Gregory Wing staff, including nurses, certified nursing assistants (CNAs), therapists, housekeeping staff and dietary staff, according to Gregory Wing Director of Nursing Cathy Rayle.
“It is a great team,” said Rayle.
Unannounced surveys are done once a year at every nursing home nationwide to ensure they are meeting state and federal requirements. The surveys involve several inspectors and can last four or five days, including interviews of staff, residents and inspections of medical records.
“They are looking to see if we know (the residents), are aware of their condition at any given moment, and what are we doing about it,” said Elizabeth Barter, Clinical Nursing Manager at St. Andrews Village.
One thing that has always stood out from the surveyors, is how well CNAs know their patients. CNAs provide most of the hands-on care to patients in nursing and rehabilitation facilities.
“It is truly resident focused care from our CNAs,” said Rayle. “They truly strive to make the resident’s day as high quality as possible each and every day,” said Barter.
