The Lincoln Home’'s second talk in a free five-week educational series on caring for someone with dementia is Tuesday, March 10, from noon 1:30 p.m.

Jim Gallagher, Esq., is a Damariscotta native, known for his four decades of attorney work in real estate, wills and trusts and probate administration. Gallagher served five terms as Lincoln County Commissioner for District 3, and has served on various other local and county boards, including for The Lincoln Home.

Gallagher will provide anecdotes and advice on some of the legal aspects of dementia.

This series will offer both professional speakers and those who have met the challenges of caring for a loved one with dementia. Useful information will include: how to provide a stimulating environment using light, color and music; stimulating taste buds to provide proper nutrition; traveling with someone with dementia; and advantages of home care agencies and adult day care programs.

Each participant will be loaned a copy of the bestselling novel “"Still Alice,"” to read on their own. "“Still Alice"” is an excellent portrayal of an accomplished linguistics professor diagnosed with Alzheimer'’s disease. The final meeting of the five-week series will be an in-depth discussion of "“Still Alice,”" integrating the knowledge and wisdom gained from the speakers and reading of the book.
