Selectmen to discuss Carters' request at next meeting
The Boothbay Harbor Board of Selectmen will have its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, January 26 at 7 p.m. at the Boothbay Harbor Town Office.
The selectmen are scheduled to renew the liquor license for the Red Cup Coffeehouse, and discuss the request made of Doug and Rebecca Carter at their previous meeting regarding the tax-acquired property they purchased in 2013 on Lobster Cove Road.
The Carters’ requested that the town pay back $10,000 of the money they paid to purchase the land ($41,600), as it was advertised as being 1.3 acres and, as it turned out, was only one acre. This discrepancy prevents the Carters from building the house they wanted on the property.
The Carters would then use the money to attempt to purchase the land from their abutting landowners. If the abutter settled at less than $10,000, Carter said on January 19 that he would return the remaining money to the town.
A public forum will also take place before the board goes into executive session. The public is welcome to attend.
