Marnie Mitchell is new Historical Society administrator
The Boothbay Region Historical Society recently welcomed Marnie Mitchell as its new administrator. Mitchell moved to East Boothbay from Rhode Island when she was two years old and attended local schools. She graduated from the Boothbay Region High School in 1983 and went on to attend college in Utah.
An avid hiker and traveler, Mitchell has backpacked not only in the American west but in Europe as well. During her international travels, Mitchell visited as many museums as possible. Among her favorites were the Irish National Famine Museum and the Frank McCourt Museum in Ireland and The Jane Austen House Museum and Westminster Abbey in England.
Mitchell now lives in Boothbay Harbor with her four children, ages 10 to 19, and her husband Cameron. When asked about other Mitchell families in town, she patiently explained that she is not related to either the well-known local photographer or the well-known local tavern keepers.
With her deep roots in the community and her love of history and museums, the society is delighted to have Mitchell on board as its administrator. The society’s museum is located at 72 Oak Street, Boothbay Harbor, and is open to the public between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m, Thursday through Saturday.
