More than 300 students at Boothbay Region Elementary School have secured pledges and are holding a walkathon this week for the benefit of the Geoff Marston family, who lost the family’s Boothbay home to a fire on February 5.

The walkathon began Monday with the fifth and sixth graders walking around the gym. Other classes will continue the walkathon on Thursday and Friday, March 6 and 7.

“Tim Rice and Lauren Brown (physical education instructors) have been generous in letting us hold the walkathon during their teaching periods,” said Christina Barter, one of the organizers of the event.
