iPad presentation for K-2 learning February 26
Three or four short videos will demonstrate how each of the teachers in the K-2 wing have integrated iPads into the classrooms at tonight's Community School District school committee meeting. Lisa Smith, speech and language therapist, is the primary spokesperson/presenter. Boothbay Region Elementary School Principal Mark Tess said he expects all of the teachers will be in attendance: Debbie Mellor and Lucy Ann Spaulding, kindergarten; Lindsey Ingraham and Lisa Andrews, grade 1; Barbara Crocker and Donna Maxim, grade 2.
Late in January, Tess told the school committee members about one way Mellor was using the technology. Students used the iPads to write and illustrate stories, which Mellor later uploaded onto YouTube for parents to enjoy.
Other items on tonight's agenda include a review of the cost centers for the 2014-2015 budget. The mandatory cost centers are: regular instruction (includes pre-K thorough 12), and English as a Second Language (ESL); special education, CTE instruction (Bath Voc classes, Other instruction (extra and co-curricular for all grades; student/staff support (includes guidance and health services in all grades, technology in elementary and high school levels; system administration (central office for AOS 98/superintendent's office) and school committee; school administration for all grades; transportation, facilities/plant maintenance; debt service and other commitments; and all other expenditures/school lunch program.
Reports from Tess, BRES Vice Principal Brandon Ward, Boothbay Region High School Principal Dan Welch and Allan Crocker, AOS 98 Superintendent of Schools Eileen King and Assistant Superintendent Shawn Carlson can be expected.
The school committee meetings are held in the BRHS library at 6 p.m.
