Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Edgecomb and Southport Fire Departments battled a log cabin fire at 12 Marston Road the morning of February 5. Owner Geoff Marston had left to go to the grocery store around 8 a.m. and returned to see smoke billowing out of the cabin. The fire was extinguished by approximately 10 a.m.
“It’s shocking; everything I own is inside there. Even if they put (the fire) out, it’s all gone,” Marston said. The home suffered extensive damage. Boothbay Fire Chief Dick Spofford told Marston the floor is gone, Marston said.
The fire is believed to have started in the basement. The cause has yet to be confirmed, but could have been a number of things, such as faulty wiring or the wood stove in the basement, Marston said. Water was shuttled in by Edgecomb and Southport fire departments to fight the blaze.
