Harbor ice
Deezie Flower sent me an email last week with a wonderful photograph showing a view from her house looking toward the outer Harbor — an image not often seen.
Ice had collected almost all the way to Tumbler Island. It was a sign.
Deezie's photo had alerted me. Perhaps it would be a good idea to take a look for myself.
So, after I got the water flowing again in a couple sections of baseboard and the shower thawed in a daughter's abandoned bathroom, I packed up my photo gear and chugged off to the Harbor.
Chilly temps and wind were in plentiful supply. The view Deezie had shared was quite remarkable.
Her well elevated vantage allowed an unique perspective. But asking for access to the Flower bedroom to embellish my photo archives may have been just over the line.
My view, similar to Deezie's, occurred a bit later in the day.
The sun setting added a little touch of warmth and some definition to the crinkled up chunks of ice. The parking lot next to Boothbay Harbor Shipyard's railway, was far less intrusive, and a great view.
Isn't it amazing how empty the Harbor is? It’s so full during summer. Empty as could be last week. Such a stark contrast.
No reason to expect many yachts this time of year, which is what makes the scene interesting for me.
Thanks Deezie for sharing your lovely image.
Mr. Flower has recorded some dandy views too and is equally good about sharing. He prefers boats to ice though.
