Last weekend, the Boothbay region was transformed into a white wonderland in time for the holidays; this weekend, the region could be glazed over.

The National Weather Service in Gray is predicting freezing rain and major ice for inland Maine, and some of that ice could be making its way to Lincoln County, Meteorologist Mike Kistner said.

“We have some icing expected across the region,” he said. “In Boothbay, it won't be as much as further inland, but there's a very good chance you can expect a quarter to four-tenths of an inch of ice.”

Kistner said a band of warm air will come into the region Saturday, Dec. 21, along with rain. On Sunday, a cold front is expected to push its way through and freeze the rain, making for an icy Sunday.

“At around noon in (the Boothbay-Wiscasset area) it will be just plain rain,” he said. “Later in the day there will be a switch and there could be some icing.”

Central Maine Power is expecting outages in the storm and is urging customers to call 1-800-696-1000 to report any outages.

CMP recommends charging phones, laptops and tablets before the storm hits and to keep flashlights, radios and drinkable water on hand in case the power goes out.
