Coastal Senior College spring walk at Frances Perkins Center
On Monday, June 9, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Coastal Senior College walk coordinators Jayne Gordon and Nancy Adams will lead a group along the paths at the Frances Perkins Center in Newcastle, which has just been made a National Monument. Frances Perkins, FDR’s Secretary of Labor and the inspiration for our Social Security system, among her many other accomplishments, grew up on this family farm and would often visit to refresh herself in the midst of her busy life. The property is a beautiful mix of woods, open fields and shoreline along the Damariscotta River. The walk will help us to understand what these surroundings meant to the legendary woman who once loved them.
The guided walk will be followed by a picnic lunch on the grounds. Coastal Senior College Spring Walks are free to all CSC members as a benefit of membership. Sign-up is required. detailed directions will be sent to all registrants.
To sign up for the spring walk at the Frances Perkins Center or to register as a member, go to coastalseniorcollege.org. Annual membership is open to all and allows adults to register for classes in the fall, winter, and spring terms each year.
