No plans to drop road
Val Thompson said his family has lived on Edgecomb's Spring Hill Farm Road for about the last 40 years of the road's more than 200-year existence, and he would like some assurance that the town isn't about to abandon it.
There are no plans to drop it as a town road, selectmen told Thompson on December 16.
Thompson's concern stemmed from comments at a recent board meeting, at which town officials briefly discussed the road's condition near Thompson's home.
According to selectmen, damage from logging equipment had raised concerns for Road Commissioner Scott Griffin and Fire Chief Roy Potter about being able to plow and get emergency vehicles there.
Thompson said the contractor scraped and added gravel to the stretch damaged when a skidder exited the property, but the road froze and thawed.
“Granted, it was kind of a mess,” Thompson said.
That stretch of road is now frozen, according to selectmen. Griffin has been in touch with the contractor about work that the road may need, Board Chairman Jack Sarmanian said.
“Our concern is access,” Selectman Stuart Smith told Thompson. “We hope nothing ever happens, but we want to be able to get to you if it does.”
New computers for town hall
Selectmen agreed to spend about $700 on a new computer and printer for Tax Collector Deb Boucher and a new computer for board members and other town officials to use.
The buy will replace equipment that probably should have been replaced a year ago, selectmen said.
