Snowstorm predicted for December 14
For those who don't want to do holiday shopping without a blanket of the white and fluffy, have no fear.
Winter is here.
The National Weather Service in Gray is predicting winter's return beginning Saturday night, Dec. 14, and continuing into Sunday with the season's first nor'easter.
When the storm moves on, expect a goodly amount of the white stuff, Meteorologist Tom Hawley said.
“It looks like we've got ourselves a snowstorm,” he said.
The first storm of the 2013-2014 season will arrive Saturday, Dec. 14, and pack a pretty solid punch, Hawley said.
“Expect it to come in around 8 p.m. Saturday,” he said. “Somewhere between 8 p.m. and midnight it will pick up and continue on until around 2 p.m. Sunday.”
Hawley said the coastal region should expect approximately eight to 12 inches of snow with a chance for some late sleet.
But, more likely than not the region will have “just” the snow and wind to deal with, Hawley said.
“The wind could gust up to 35 miles per hour,” he said. “It will be blowing plenty (throughout the storm). I expect we will see some big snow drifts. Especially around 6 a.m. (Sunday). The biggest gusts will be from 6 a.m. until about 2 p.m.”
Like a true nor'easter, this storm has moved up along the coast from Cape Cod and will skitter into Canada once it is past Maine.
