Dirigo deja vu

Twice in one night?
The Dirigo Cougars chose the perfect option for the final play of the game as Riley Robinson rolled in a game winner with less than a second to go to lift the visitors to a 48-46 win over the Boothbay Region High School Seahawks in a classic to open the season at Porter Memorial on Wednesday night, December 11. In the game played before this one, the Lady Seahawks lost to the Lady Cougars, 36-34, on a Dirigo hoop with two seconds to play.
The Seahawks handled the opening night pressure to perfection as the defending Western Maine champs rolled to a 13-1 lead before Dirigo scored the final seven points of the opening period. But after being outscored in the middle periods, 29-18, the Seahawks rallied in the final period, eventually tying the game a couple times on hoops by John Hepburn and knotting things up again on a drive to the hoop by Andrew Hallinan with18 seconds left in the game.
A missed opportunity on a take away by Boothbay gave the Cougars the last opportunity as Robinson ducked into the lane, upfaked and got the roll to give Dirigo a win that will surely show up February.
John Hepburn led the Seahawks with 20 points despite being hampered with foul trouble that kept him on the bench with his fourth for almost seven minutes spanning the third and fourth periods. Andrew Hallinan finished with 10 points, while Robinson led Dirigo with 13 points.
It's right back to work for the Seahawks on Thursday night as they look to take out their frustrations on the Lisbon Greyhounds at Lisbon Falls.
