Meeting on cell towers in Boothbay June 4
Many towns are experiencing battles with cell tower companies over placement of telecommunication towers, despite the efforts of town governments to retain control of where these structures may be allowed and not allowed, via zoning ordinances.
Due to FCC mandate, private property owners can be forced to allow the siting of towers on their property. Yes, this is true. Towns have had local ordinances overruled, despite careful provision for placement in zones where such structures could be most easily accommodated and assimilated into the surroundings.
There is still time for us to be the planners for reasonable and proper placement of structures that support our exponentially increasing desire and need for technology access. We can determine what will suit our collective vision for our town’s future, but time is running out.
Town planners are interested in knowing if anyone cares. Do you?
It’s vitally important to hear now from citizens from all zones of our town and from all sides of the issue; from those who would welcome a tower on their land or nearby, those who would not, and every point of view in between.
If you believe placement of communication towers to be a significant issue for you and for the Town of Boothbay, it is extremely important you come to the meeting to voice your opinion and contribute your ideas on Tuesday, June 4 at 5:30 p.m. at the Boothbay Town Office.
