John Anderson grew up in Rockland, Maine listening to family stories about his beloved Swedish grandfather, Capt. Anders Anderson. When John inherited his grandfather’s ship logs, he embarked on a journey to learn as much as he could about Capt. Anderson’s fascinating life. From leaving his family farm in Sweden, to becoming a ship captain in Maine and falling in love with a lighthouse keeper’s daughter, the story of Capt. Anderson is a moving look at a way of life which has since disappeared. On Thursday, Sept. 5, 4:30 p.m. at Boothbay Region Historical Society John Anderson will tell the extraordinary story of his grandfather’s life in his illustrated talk “The Life of Capt. Anders Anderson.”

John Anderson graduated from the University of Maine, Orono, traveled the world while working for Swiss Air, then taught middle school English in Massachusetts. John’s biography of his grandfather, “Bourne on the Wind,” was published this summer.

Boothbay Region Historical Society, 72 Oak Street in Boothbay Harbor, is open to the public throughout the year Thursday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m..
