Seahawks honored at State House
The undefeated (22-0) 2019 Girls Class C State champion, the Boothbay Region High School girls basketball team, was invited and honored by Sen. Dana Dow (R-Lincoln) at the State House March 28.
Dow recognized the team in the Maine Senate by presenting the Seahawks with a framed legislative sentiment and reading on the Senate floor a message he wrote about the team. The message read, in part: “The team was down early in the game … After rallying, they pulled ahead in the third quarter and never looked back. These girls have realized that basketball is a team sport. Not everyone can always be the leading scorer, best shooter or top performer all the time. It’s not about one individual, but about the team. This team did not succeed without the realization that they each had to work on and improve their own skills and not just expect a few to carry them to victory. … Join me in congratulating and welcoming them to the Maine Senate.”
Rep. Holly Stover (D-Boothbay) also recognized and greeted the team during its State House visit and shared a photo opportunity with the team and the Gold Ball in the Senate chamber.
Coach Brian Blethen wished to thank Dow for “his kindness and humility towards our team.” Blethen said Dow’s message “captured the essence of our team’s success this year, which was an unselfish and committed effort by all.”
