Waterfront Preservation group hosts dinner, information night
Over 100 members of the community and supporters gathered Saturday evening, March 23, for a spring Thanksgiving dinner presentation hosted by Boothbay Harbor Waterfront Preservation (BHWP) at the Rotary Club.
Waterfront Preservation Board members Ken F-Fitch and Dave Bean presented plans for the future Eastside Waterfront Park which will provide public physical access to the water (with a 90-foot view corridor), public access docks and working waterfront docks devoted to help seed the next generation of fishermen/women on our peninsula.
Waterfront Preservation’s plans include:
Working Waterfront: Helping to seed the next generation: A hand up for local student apprentices who aspire to be fishermen.
- Free parking
- Free docking
- Free winter trap storage
Public Access: A recreational magnet for all visitors and residents regardless of means. Planned features include: Short-term public dockage; a splash pad for children of any age; tidal steps; and a pavilion for community events
Economic Development: High-quality parks and recreation play a pivotal role in improving a community’s quality of life. This creates a spark for attracting year round workers, employers, investments and jobs. Public green space helps improve the value (and tax revenue) of other properties sustainably over the long term.
