Water project talks on tap for February 11
With 2014 off to a promising start, the Boothbay Region Water District Board of Trustees will sit down at 6 p.m. on February 11 to discuss the big projects that are headed down the pike.
After securing more than $3 million in a loan money and grants from the United State Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, BRWD Manager Jon Ziegra and staff are ready to begin the groundwork for the extensive water projects on Southport and Campbell Street, Boothbay Harbor.
The Southport project calls for merging the island's water system with Boothbay Harbor and replacing the old Southport water tower with a $500,000 gallon concrete standpipe.
The trustees will also be discussing the Campbell Street project, which involves blasting ledge and laying 1,600 feet of pipe to tie into the existing water systems of Highland Park and Dora Highland subdivisions.
Ziegra said the projects will significantly enhance clean water supply and fire protection in the region, and in the meantime spread the cost of fire protection more equitably between the towns.
The trustees meeting takes place at the BRRWD's office at 184 Adams Pond Road and is open to the public. Click here for the full agenda.
