Vehicle rollover on Route 27
A vehicle rollover involving Smith Climo, 57, of Southport, occurred on Route 27 at 5:25 a.m. on May 14.
According to the Boothbay Fire Department, the first responders at the scene, it appeared Climo was traveling northbound when his Toyota Prius swerved left, exited the road near the Boothbay Animal Hospital, struck a tree and flipped over.
Climo was transported to St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor; as of 9 a.m. he was en route to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
At approximately 9 a.m., the victim's wife, Donna Climo said she had spoken with her husband who was conscious and seemed to be in stable condition.
On May 15, Climo was still at Maine Medical Center, but is expected to be return home in the next couple days, Donna Climo said. She said her husband doesn't have any memory of how the accident happened, and only remembers waking up with medical personnel telling him not to move.
“It's going to be a long healing process, but he'll be okay,” Donna Climo said.
Climo is a Southport selectman and a Boothbay Region water district trustee.
