Tonight at the Boothbay Selectmen: Code enforcement and golf clubs
Cross River Talks
In the dead of a Maine winter, things are picking up steam at the Boothbay Town Office. The Boothbay Region Land Trust will begin talks with the selectmen and Boothbay Town Manager Jim Chaousis before Wednesday night's regularly scheduled meeting on February 12.
Last December, BRLT submitted a proposal for the 19 acre parcel called Cross River Center. The land is owned by the town but BRLT is interested in developing the area into nature trails and a possible visitor's center. So far the majority of the selectmen think BRLT's proposal is reasonable, but Selectman Douglas Burnham has his doubts.
Talks begin at 6 p.m. at the Boothbay Town Office. The meeting is open to the public, but the portion in which the selectmen discuss the Cross River Center with be an executive session (closed to the public).
Cell tower Part 2
East Boothbay residents realized when the board of appeals rejected a 120 foot cell tower proposed for Ocean Point in January, it probably wouldn't be the last time they would hear about it.
John Springer, the lawyer representing Mariner Tower has submitted a request for reconsideration to the appeals board. Springer claimed the board's decision to deny the area wireless services is a violation of the Federal Telecommunications Act of 1996.
Springer has not indicated whether or not he will pursue the case in federal court. However, if the board of appeals upholds its decision, a federal law suit could get very expensive for the town of Boothbay.
The selectmen will be briefed on the matter tonight, but they will not likely weigh in on the issue that is outside of their purview.
Budget talks will continue, as well as continued discussions on combining code enforcement services between the towns of Edgecomb and Boothbay. Also, what's going on with the Boothbay Harbor Country Club? All this and more at tonight's meeting.
