There when you need them
Boothbay Region Ambulance Service reports they have begun to install the 17 automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) donated by the Schacknow Family Foundation.
The life-saving devices will be strategically placed to provide coverage throughout the region and each will be available to the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. AEDs are simple to use and can mean the difference between life and death for individuals stricken by cardiac arrest.
BRAS Operations Manager Scott Lash said AEDs have now been installed at the Boothbay Fire Station, East Boothbay Fire Station, Southport Fire Station, Southport Library and two are available in the Boothbay Harbor Police Department cruisers.
“Chief Spofford has placed two AEDs for public access 24/7. One is located on the exterior of the Central Station (Route 27) and the second on the inside of the East Boothbay Fire Station (in the meeting room). Chief Gamage placed one inside the Southport Fire Station and one on the outside of the Southport Library.”
Lash said several more public AED installations, including the Boothbay Harbor Town Office, are in the works and he will keep the community informed as more public AEDs become available.
Lash said all of the region’s public AEDs will be registered and their location will eventually be available via mobile device.
