Straw hats and googly eyes
As can be seen from the lively assembly of people and pumpkins in the accompanying photo, the time honored tradition of pumpkin decorating is a popular event for the October Garden Therapy project at St Andrews Village. Several members of the Boothbay Region Garden Club joined residents of both the Gregory Wing and Safe Havens to turn 35 spic and span little pumpkins into friendly faux jack-o'-lanterns to mark the coming of the fall holiday season.
The BRGC volunteers set up the work table in advance with small straw hats, googly eyes and an array of stick on pieces that would later be improvised by the residents into kitty cats, vampires, clowns and scarecrow faces. Once the project was completed, the garden club team distributed the comical faces of Halloween to resident rooms throughout the Gregory Wing and Safe Havens.
The Boothbay Region Garden Club offers many opportunities like Garden Therapy to engage with and give back to the community while fulfilling the mission of protecting and conserving our natural resources. Prospective members are always welcome. Find more information at http://www.boothbayregiongardenclub.org.
