Rev. Bonnie Spencer at All Saints Sept. 1 and 8
All Saints by-the-Sea has been blessed with clergy from all over the country this season. For the final two services of the summer, we welcome the Rev. Bonnie Sarah Spencer who is the part-time priest in charge at Church of the Holy Redeemer in Denver, Colorado. Rev. Spencer will preside over the service of Holy Communion at both 8a.m. and 10a.m. on Sept. 1 and 8. People of all faiths are invited to attend the services. A social hour with refreshments will follow the 10 a.m. services. An informal discussion of the week’s scripture passages will also be led by Rev. Spencer on Tuesday, Sept. 3 from 9 to 10 a.m. on the chapel porch.
In addition to her duties at Church of the Holy Redeemer, Rev. Spencer is a chaplain for The Denver Hospice. The chaplain position has blessed Spencer with many opportunities to minister to the dying and their families. She has served churches in Colorado and Massachusetts since being ordained in 1999. In addition to her two clergy positions, she is passionate about racial justice. She participates in the Diocese of Colorado Race Task Force. The Task Force goals include education throughout the diocese about racism in the church and society, as well as community engagement to advance racial justice.
Raised primarily in New York where her family practiced the Jewish faith, she had a conversion experience in college at the University of Colorado in Boulder. She worked for nine years in campus ministry before attending The General Theological Seminary. Bonnie is married to Catherine Anderson and has a puppy named Asher. When not working, she enjoys reading, hiking, running, and hanging out with friends and family.
All Saints by-the-Sea is on Southport Island on All Saints Road about two miles on the left driving south on Route 238 (look for the Episcopal Church sign by the side of the road). Parking is available along Route 238, or if necessary, in the limited number of handicapped parking spaces off All Saints Road. A golf cart will ferry persons from the handicapped lot to the church steps. You may also come to church by private boat or by the tour boat Novelty, tides permitting, which leaves Boothbay Harbor from Pier 8 at 9 a.m. Novelty picks up passengers from the church dock at 11:40 a.m. for return to Pier 8. The very beautiful and simple wood chapel is open for quiet prayer and meditation during the week.
