Sawicky began his ministry in St. Louis at the beginning of June this year. Before coming to Rhode Island, he was the curate of Saint John’s Cathedral in Denver, Colorado. Sawicky was ordained deacon in the Cathedral of All Saints in Albany, New York on June 4, 2011 and ordained priest at Saint John’s on Jan. 21, 2012, the feast of St. Agnes.
Sawicky has a 2011 Master of Divinity from Yale. His undergraduate and graduate training was in the archaeology of the ancient, Eastern Mediterranean world. He has a BA from Wheaton College in History and Ancient Near Eastern Archeology, and a master’s degree in maritime archeology from University College, London. He has been involved with several field projects in this region, both on land and underwater. As a priest, he continues to be enamored with the richness of this subject, though now he notes, from the perspective of “another shore, (towards) a greater light.”
Sawicky’s sermons can be found on his blog: www.frbsawicky.org.
All Saints by-the-Sea is on Southport Island on All Saints Road about 2 miles on your left as you drive south on Route 238 (look for the Episcopal Church sign by the side of the road).
