Refuse District votes for eBay store
The idea of an eBay store evolved from a discussion about opening the Swap Shop in May this year and additional revenue possibilities.
Boothbay Region Refuse Disposal District Supervisor Steve Lewis brought up the idea to the board of trustees.
“(The trustees) were pretty much on board with it,” Lewis said in a post-meeting interview. “We're going to start out small and only put up small, select items and see how we do. We already have a PayPal account that takes 10 percent of the selling price.”
Trustee Gary Farnham said the district had the potential to make more on eBay than in the Swap Shop. Farnham made the motion to let Lewis go ahead with the idea. The board unanimously approved the motion. (Trustee Rob Hopkins was not in attendance.)
Speaking of the Swap Shop, Lewis announced it would open in May.
Treasurer's report
The Boothbay Region Refuse District is ahead of where it was last year, financially. The district's new bookkeeper Anna Giles reported it was $30,000 ahead compared to last year at this time. All four towns (Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Southport and Edgecomb) have paid their fees.
Giles is doing well with collections on past due accounts and reported that two clients with large balances were on payment plans.
“It's nice to not be carrying a lot of debt anymore,” Lewis said post-meeting. “Having someone taking care of it full-time makes all the difference.”
