Railway Village hosts 6th Family Harvest Days

It was a perfect day to end the season for Boothbay Railway Village. Family Harvest Days on Sept. 21 and 22 had nice weather and a full schedule of family activities. This was the sixth year BRV sponsored the event.
A group of volunteers and full-time village staff organized and operated the two-day celebration. This year’s event had a mixture of old favorites and new activities. Among the returning popular events were a train ride around the village, a hay ride and barrel train rides. Kids received a free mini-pumpkin and pumpkin for decorating and carving. A kiddie pool was filled with corn kernels. New events included potato sack races and face painting.
This year’s event brought some old and new faces to BRV. Virginia Beauregard brought her two children from Colorado to visit her mom in Industry last year. The Beauregards visited BRV last year and returned for Family Harvest Days this year.
“We just love all the old buildings and equipment here,” Beauregard said. “We wanted to come back this year and saw they were having Family Harvest Days so we decided this would be a great family event.”
Last winter, the Dort family of Gloucester, Massachusetts drove by BRV on their way to Gardens Aglow. The family was determined to make a return trip to Boothbay this summer to take a closer look at the village. “My kids love trains so we came back, and couldn’t have picked a better time,” said Jen Dort.
Each Family Harvest Days weekend celebrates the end of BRV’s season. “It’s a nice event for the whole family. There are a lot of activities. It’s a nice way to end the season,” said event volunteer Kate Rice.
