Ongoing help from community is a boon to Food Pantry
Despite relentless storms and frigid temperatures since early December, news from the Boothbay Region Food Pantry is mostly good.
Several large deliveries of food have helped fill the pantry’s shelves since the year began. Under the leadership of Sue Burge, 10 local church congregations generously contributed both money and food during the Souper Bowl of Sharing, an event we hope will take place every year around the time of the Super Bowl. The Rotary’s “Stuff the Bus” event also was highly successful.
Monthly visits to the region by the Good Shepherd Food Bank’s Food Mobile truck have enabled many residents of the peninsula to fill their own pantry shelves, while numerous cases of “leftovers” were subsequently donated by Good Shepherd to the food pantry. Additional Food Mobile visits are scheduled for late March and April.
Financial and food donations from many community residents have continued to provide much needed support to our local food pantry. The pantry’s directors would like to shout out “thank you” and give a hug or handshake of friendship to everyone who has given food, money, or hours of volunteer support during this difficult winter.
